While many were celebrating Independence Day in the USA last weekend, our Laura Gillen was at her home place in County Mayo celebrating the unanimous appointment of her Independent father Michael Holmes as Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council. The announcement was followed by a flood of warm tributes paid to Michael right across the political divide. It was a particularly proud day for Laura and her family, not only as his appointment was a unanimous one but also as he is an Independent Councillor, being the first independent appointed to this position in 24 years. Many congratulations to the Holmes family. In the highly likely event that Mayo gets to the All Ireland final, there will be no free tickets for anyone because Michael Holmes doesn’t work like that. Having said that, I would really love a couple of Hogan Stand tickets if you have a few going spare Michael!
